Principal photography was completed on October 17, 2017. It premiered at the 2018 Telluride Film Festival and the 2018 BFI London Film Festival. It was also shown at Cinemania (Bulgaria), Febiofest (Czech Republic) as well as the Tokyo International Film Festival. Ralph Fiennes was awarded the Special Achievement Award in Tokyo for his outstanding artistic contribution. The film also received an honorary nomination for the Tokyo Grand Prix. The White Crow was released on March 22, 2019 in the UK (StudioCanal) and on April 26 in the US (Sony Pictures Classics).

The film is a shuffle through three time periods including the present (1961) in Paris as well as his childhood and the start of Nureyev’s ballet career, which began six years before.
